SmoothWeb

Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Hong Kong, SmoothWeb has a history of ongoing innovation and a culture of being 'first to market'. Innovation milestones include developing a proprietary WebOs CMS - a very early cloud solution in 2012 - to ultra low latency live and on demand streaming solution (2014) to the latest patented A.I. mirror in 2017, which can be seen in retail stores across Asia. SmoothWeb was the first Cyberport company in Cyberport Innovation Park, Hong Kong to be awarded the Red Herring Asia and Red Herring Global Awards as one of the global100 most innovative companies. SmoothWeb manages and provides rich content to interactive, A.I. and mobile devices in branded environments in stores, events and exhibitions for higher engagement and conversion. These include a patented ‘first to market’ intelligent mirror system (the A.I. 'Mirai Mirror'), A.R. mobile solutions for personalisation and navigation, beacon technologies for product interaction, touch screens, kiosks, digital signage, video LED walls and signature ‘marquee innovations’ for that WOW effect in physical locations for retail, hospitality, events and exhibitions. Content is built and managed on the proprietary SmoothWeb platform which can easily scale to manage content on high volume interactive signage and mobile devices across multiple locations. The platform also collects intelligence including data on customer interaction, user ID, and local environment markers actionable insights that drive better performance and ROI. The company provides an integrated one-step solution from prototype to software development, pilot, installation, deployment, updates and maintenance and is highly regarded for speed of development, innovation, scalability and flexibility in solution and pricing models. Customer satisfaction drives solutions. Competing for attention in branded environments is tough. There is a lot of noise and attention spans are limited. Increasing customer dwell time is crucial to get customers to engage with brands and products and customers are busy and time is scarce. By providing engaging, personalised experiences - from the A.I. mirror to touch screens and RFID-enabled products that trigger videos - SmoothWeb makes shopping more relevant, enjoyable and less stressful by making it convenient to peruse, to choose and to check availability and to take away the experience on a personal mobile phone. Helping Retailers: Given that once a customer picks up and tries on a product, there is a higher propensity to purchase, solutions attract customers to pick up, touch and linger. By engaging the customer at the point of interaction, retail store staff can provide personalised information that leads to higher sales and brand loyalty. The A.I. 'Mirai Mirror' is the first patented mirror to offer trained deep learning recognition of what a person is wearing. Other mirrors on the market are sensor-driven and are set up to deliver pre-programmed blanket content. SmoothWeb’s 'Mirai Mirror', launched in late 2017, it delivers personalised content depending on what the individual is wearing In near realtime. It is trained to recognise the exact shoe worn by the customer and to deliver content appropriate to the customers’ needs. Latency levels are minimal so engagement is high. The ‘Mirai Mirror’ has been launched in Adidas flagship stores in Japan, South Korea and Thailand and is slated to be rolled out in China. To date, the company has taken no funding and is built on founder funds and sweat equity. Cashflow is positive. The plan now is to expand into new markets from a base in Asia. With pilots in multiple markets in Asia and customers in Japan, South Korea and Thailand, SmoothWeb is expanding into China and in discussions with distribution partners in Europe. We are currently developing a mobile solution for in-store that allows customers to access information on in-store SKUs on personal mobiles. We are also working on an AI-driven solution to link warehousing and inventory levels to demand in-store to optimise stock levels and availability.
